It’s Wimbledon time!

Wimbledon 2022 got underway earlier this week and will keep us in nail-biting suspense all the way until the finals on Sunday, July 10. It’s pure, delicious chance that the Championships happen to coincide with peak domestic strawberry season but the two – strawberries and Wimbledon – are now inextricably linked.
With their just-right balance of sweet and tart, and that aroma that conjures up long, lazy days, these heart-shaped, fragrant berries are an essential part of the summer table. Our new 12 Ways with Strawberries collection has a dozen ways to prepare and serve this quintessential summer fruit.
Enjoy them served simply, with a dollop of whipped cream, in traditional Strawberry Shortcake, or turn them into luscious Strawberry Jam. Try Strawberry Gelato and Fast Focaccia with Strawberries, or give strawberries a savory spin with Strawberry Gazpacho or Strawberry Salsa.
Strawberries figure large in our Wimbledon collection, too. Tap into the Wimbledon vibe with the likes of Strawberries and Borage with Flaked Almonds, White Chocolate and Strawberry Sponge, Cucumber Sandwiches, and lashings of Homemade Ginger Beer.

Two new books on ckbk

Say hello to two brilliant books – a mushroom compendium and a wide-ranging book from British food writer Eleanor Ford. For more books that will take you to faraway places, have a look at our Roads Less Travelled cookbook showcase and try recipes from South East Asia, Pakistan, Tibet, and more.
The Nutmeg Trail
By Eleanor Ford
London-based food writer Eleanor Ford has lived in Indonesia and Hong Kong and has a passion for the region’s food. In this, her third cookbook, she investigates the sea routes by which spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, and fenugreek circulated their way around the globe and found their way into recipes, forever changing tastes and food cultures along the way.
Ford’s recipes, such as Sri Lankan Beetroot Mallum, Indonesian Rica Rica Prawns, and Venetian Chicken with Almond Milk & Dates are true to their roots – and they’re easy to make, too.

Her previous book, the award-winning Fire Islands: Recipes from Indonesia, is also on ckbk. We spoke to Eleanor about the enduring appeal of spices, how important taste is for evoking memory, and about her formative flavor experiences growing up in London and Java. Read our latest Q&A feature.
The Mushroom Cookbook
By Michael Hyams and Liz O’Keefe
This is a must-read for mycophiles: it covers 30 of the most common edible wild and cultivated mushroom varieties from around the world, including chanterelletrompette, shiitake, matsutake, and more. The clear photos show you what to look for, how to prepare them, and where to find each type.
The more than 50 creative recipes include the likes of Mushroom Ceviche, Fish and Mushroom Pie, and Chinese Broth, and are divided by season (yes, there is always a mushroom in season, no matter where you live).
